About me ......
I live in Montville Township with my wife and 9 month old daughter. I received my Ph.D. in biochemistry and am currently employed as a cancer research scientist at a non-profit cancer center in northern New Jersey. My main emphasis is on the improvement of methods to detect, and therapies to treat, pancreatic cancer.
Why I am running for office ......
For nearly thirty years, our country has followed "conservative" policies that have proven to be a disaster for the middle class and working families. From our international reputation, to our manufacturing sector, to the operation of our government, to the fabric of our society, these policies have ravaged our towns, state and country. I recently came to the conclusion that I can no longer idly stand by and watch.
In New Jersey, we have serious problems - health care costs, the environment, job creation and growth - that require serious thought and discussion. We need moderate legislators who will work across party lines to represent us, the people. We don't need partisan politicians who put party loyalty über alles, who, like George Bush, won't talk with people simply because they disagree or who ignore the will of their constituents. Unfortunately, my republican opponents believe in obstructionism and being contrary, just as a matter of principle.
The Democrats in Trenton have made considerable progress, especially when juxtaposed to the relative inactivity and ineffectiveness of the preceding era of Republican dominance. The Democrats have brought real property tax relief to more than 95% of New Jerseyans, enacted strong anti-corruption legislation, so that New Jersey now ranks as the state with the 10th strongest anti-corruption laws (from 30th place 10 years ago) and created the position of State Comptroller, to root out waste, fraud and abuse of tax dollars. Taken together,
the Democrats have proven that their words carry meaning and are serious about making our state better for all.
I believe that many of my qualities as a scientist - honesty, integrity, objectivity, and strong analytical skills - are what we need in government. Like the vast majority of people in this district (both democratic and republican), I am a moderate who believes in fiscal responsibility while being socially progressive. I understand that almost no issue is 'black and white" and that individual prosperity is entwined with our business community and society, at large. As a result, each issue must be approached thoughtfully and rationally. I hope you agree and will support me this November. Thank you.
